Local gas prices continued to set records over the weekend, rising an additional cent to $3.57 a gallon today, according to AAA’s fuelgaugereport.com.
The Illinois average also increased a cent to a record $3.65 a gallon. Chicago, the Quad Cities and Bloomington-Normal also are at all-time records, and other metro areas are close. Rockford has the sixth-highest gas prices of Illinois’ metro areas. The Rockford metro area includes the city and surrounding areas.
The national average topped $3.50 a gallon for the first time.
Diesel prices also continue to set records locally and nationally. Rockford’s average rose less than a cent to $4.21 a gallon today, the fifth-highest price in the state. The Illinois average increased a cent to a record $4.27 a gallon. The national average hit $4.20 a gallon for the first time.
