A Register Star editor bought gasoline today at prices not common since the ’70s oil embargo thanks to a glitch at a downtown Rockford filling station.
Mid-grade gas at the BP station on East State Street at Jefferson Street, 1030 E. State St., was listed at $3.28 a gallon, but rang up at the pump at just 28 cents a gallon, said Chris Soprych, assistant managing editor for multimedia. He got 12.2 gallons of gas for $3.53.
The cashier said the price was a mistake, but honored it as a valid sale, Soprych said.
No word on how soon the mistake will be corrected.
