ComEd is asking state regulators to approve a rate increase to offset the cost of repairing and modernizing its system.
If the increase is approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission, residential customers would see an 8 percent increase on their bills, or an extra $6 added to a typical $75 monthly bill. Last year, the ICC shot down all but a fraction of ComEd’s request for a 20 percent increase in delivery rates. And this summer, ComEd agreed to roll back a separate rate increase instituted after a 10-year rate freeze ended in January. ComEd serves 3.7 million customers across northern Illinois.
