Starting today, you can watch a new rrstar.com being built live.

The Register Star will begin converting to a new and improved site, which is expected to be completed within 72 hours.

“You’ll find better navigation and more sophisticated packaging of news and advertising,” said Linda Grist Cunningham, executive editor. “But it’s not like flipping a switch from one site to another. We have to work for a couple of days within the existing site to change it over.”

Enhancements include a “carousel” that rotates through the top news/feature stories each day, hot links to popular content, a social media directory and a daily poll.

Two popular features will be easier to find: Blogs will be in a more prominent position near the top of the home page, and the links to photo galleries will be much more visual.

If you want to know what other people are reading and talking about, you will find the most popular and most commented stories listed.

And if you want to save money, you can find coupons, deals and special offers.
