Traffic on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway will shift to the westbound side of the road Tuesday night through the rest of the 2008 construction season as part of the ongoing widening of the highway.
Eastbound traffic from the South Beloit toll plaza to the Cherry Valley interchange, at the junction of interstates 90 and 39, will move to the westbound side overnight. One eastbound lane will be closed from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday for pavement striping and barrier-wall installation.
After that, there will be two lanes of traffic in each direction at most times. Lane closures will only happen during off-peak hours. All entrance and exit ramps will remain open.
Lane widths will be reduced, and a 45 mph speed limit is in effect in all construction zones at all times, whether or not workers are present.
The widening project will add a third lane in each direction and finish in 2009. During next year’s construction season, all traffic will shift to the eastbound side of the road.
